The Arms (Electronic Transactions) Amendment Regulations 2018 have been gazetted and will come into effect on 17 January 2019. These regulations enable applications and other processes carried out under the Arms Act 1983 to be made electronically through an internet site maintained by (or on behalf) of the Commissioner of Police.
Electronic transactions options are anticipated to become available gradually over time from the later part of 2019. They will be an optional alternative to paper based processes, which will remain. This means that in the future, firearms licence applications, permits to import firearms, changes of address notification, request a replacement card, and many other services will become available online.
