Based on feedback, Police is making a change to the way the firearms safety programme is delivered. From 1 March, the theory test and practical training will be combined into the same session, meaning applicants won’t have to make two trips; one for the theory test and one for their practical training.

The one session approach involves a single three and a half hour session made up of the theory test and the practical training. People who already have a confirmation letter can complete the current method or wait until March to undertake the new combined process if they prefer.

Police also received feedback that additional training locations are needed across the country and we’ve taken that on board; there will be 66 locations progressively coming on line for 2019.
