Since rolling out the trial of the Firearms Licence Checker there has been good uptake across the dealer network and Police are now making the Firearms Licence Checker available to all firearms licence holders and organisations such as banks.

The Firearms Licence Checker enables anyone selling a firearm to confirm the purchaser’s licence status is current. This supports our vision for a safer New Zealand for all communities.

The online Firearms Licence Checker allows the user to check the licence version numbers (only new or recently renewed licence holders will have a licence version number). However, if the card does not have a version number, leave this field blank and the Checker will still work.

The only information that firearms buyers and seller need to provide is the information that’s accessible on the firearms licence card.

The use of the Firearms Licence Checker will help prevent the missuse of licence cards, including any that are fake.
