Some firearms licence holders have been impacted by the recent devastating cyclones.
The Government has responded by extending firearms and dealer's licences in areas recently impacted by the cyclones.
This extension applies only to firearms licences, dealer's licences, and endorsements for holders whose address for licensing purposes is in the areas impacted by the cyclones and covered by a state of national emergency from 10 January to 14 March 2023.
The emergency-declared affected cyclone areas are:
- Northland
- Auckland
- Waikato
- Bay of Plenty
- Tairāwhiti
- Hawke’s Bay
- Tararua
- Hauraki Districts.
The extensions apply to people who had not applied for a new licence on or before 10 January and whose licence expired after 11 January.
They will now have until 5pm, 31 August 2023 to apply for their new licence.
Firearms dealers will be able to check a licence holder's status using the firearms licence checker. The firearms licence checker will reflect the updated licence status of eligible individuals.
Affected licence holders who lost their firearms licence card in the floods, are requested to get another one printed as soon as they are able.
